Pat Murphy
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Pat Murphy is a sports anchor and reporter for the 6:00 and 11:00 p.m. newscasts on WPEC CBS 12. He also anchors the top-rated SPORTS PLUS show Sundays at 11:30 p.m. Pat graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelors Degree in Radio, Television, and Film. He began his television career in La Crosse, Wisconsin, at WKBT in 1980, where he was a news reporter and sports anchor. After nearly two years there, he relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he was the weekend sports anchor and reporter. From there, he headed to South Florida, and for ten years worked for WPTV in West Palm Beach. During his career, he has won six Florida Sportscaster Awards for anchoring, reporting and specials. In 1997, Pat won the prestigious Milt Spencer Award, the state's highest honor for sportscasters, for "contributions made for the betterment of sports in Florida." In 2001 Pat was inducted into the Palm Beach County Sports Hall of Fame, a crowning achievement for the impact that Pat has made in the local sports community. In 2003, Pat won an A-P award for his sports special �Rivalry Renewed� on the showdown between the Miami Hurricanes and Florida Gators. Pat is heavily involved in several charities in the area, including The Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. His annual charity golf tournament, which he started in 1989 has raised more than $2 million for the clubs. Pat's hobbies include fine dining, movies, golf, and being outdoors.
