Cyber Sales: Online Retailers Make Monday Push
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Stores Hoping Consumers Pick Up a Mouse, Don't Leave the House
Move over, long lines. Monday is the day to shop online.
Online retail sales are expected to surge Monday as shoppers dig deep for discounts this holiday season and head to the Internet as part of what some call Cyber Monday.
More than 83 percent of online retailers are expected to offer some sort of discount or deal as part of Cyber Monday promotions, according to the National Retail Federation. The day marks a push by the online retail industry to get shoppers to spend money on the Internet.
"Online retailers have been planning their Cyber Monday promotions for months and are eagerly waiting to debut these deals to shoppers," said Scott Silverman, executive director of Shop.org, in a press release. "Many people who didn't want to fight the crowds or get up early to stand in line over the weekend have been waiting until Cyber Monday to start their holiday shopping."
As your fingers do the shopping this Cyber Monday, CBS 12 News has given the "thumbs up" to some stores and discounts online:
- For deals by hour or by category, check out http://www.cybermonday.com
- To filter by retailer or by deal, check out http://www.gottadeal.com
- To search for coupons by retailer, head to http://www.retailmenot.com, http://www.couponcabin.com, and http://www.currentcodes.com.
The National Retail Federation expects that nearly 85 million consumers will shop online at home or from work on Monday.
Monday's online sales are expected to be brisk, analysts said, but overall online holiday sales are expected to be weak this holiday season.
