Son of Former KKK Grand Wizard Denied Seat On PBC GOP Exec Committee

Derek Black says he not a white supremacist

Derek Black won an election fair and square to sit on the executive committee of Palm Beach County's republican party. But his father is a former Klu Klux Klan grand wizard. And he didn't get to take his seat on the committee. But Party Chairman Sid Dinerstein says it because Black didn't follow party rules, not because of his fathers racist past.

"I want it to be a peaceful evening." Black told Sid Dinnerstein before Wednesday night's meeting of the GOP's executive committee.

Dinerstein responded, "Well it's always going to be a peaceful evening. That's what we do. Thank you."

It may have been a peaceful evening, but it came with some excitement. 19 year old Derek Black and Dinerstein mixed it up about Black's election to the party's executive committee. After the other committee members were seated.

"If he had followed the rules he would have been seated tonight", Dinerstein says. The party chairrman also say,  because Black did not sign the party's loyalty oath, he was never eligible to run in the first place.

"Long before that he didn't qualify to be a candidate in the election. And what I'm going to address is that issue. Not just for Derek per se. For everybody", says Dinerstein.

But for other members of the county GOP wanted to talk about the other Black's other issue.

"I sit 10-15 feet away from this man who is a hate monger. He likes to denigrate Jews. Well I'm a jew," said one man.

Derek's father Don Black has used his website Stormfront as a message board of support for his son. Stormfront is considered by many to be the worlds first "hate website". But the younger Black is quick to distance himself from his father's past. And says he is offended when called a hate monger or a white supremacist. He's running, he says, simply because he has an interest in local politics.

"You have to judge me based on my action and my words," He says.

At the end of Wednesday's meeting, Derek Black said he would appeal the ruling. And he's had some high profile support. Another former Grand Wizard David Duke has been in town supporting him.
